The youth ministry at Oxford Methodist church aims to complete Oxford United Methodist Church’s mission, “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world,” as we minister to our church’s sixth through twelfth graders. During the school year the youth meet Sunday nights 5:30-7:00. The Sunday night meetings begin with a fellowship at a supper provided by parents or church members. After dinner the youth head to the youth room for a time of worship and games. We then introduce the lesson and break into small groups where we use Scripture discuss important issues for today’s students.
During the summer the youth meet every Monday morning for Mission Mondays, where we perform service and mission opportunities for the community. The youth also meet for fellowship and discipleship a couple times a month during the summer months.
Each month the youth also have at least one fun fellowship opportunity. Two of these opportunities include a weekend trip to the North Carolina Conference’s youth event Pilgrimage in November and a week long service project with Carolina Cross Connection over the summer.
Year-round the youth meet in the youth room at 10:00 on Sundays for Sunday school. We are currently studying theology and ecclesiology through the Re:form curriculum.
The major youth fundraiser of the year is Chicken-on-a-Mission, a barbecue chicken plate sell that takes place the last Friday of February.
In order for our program to take care of a student in the case of an emergency, we ask for all parents to fill out the Youth Medical and Liability Release Form: Youth waiver.
